When originally composed, this song paid reverence to not only to Kwame Nkrumah, but to many of the other prominent politicians, including J. B. Danquah and K. A. Busia, who had contributed to the achievement of Ghana’s liberation. Shortly after independence, however, Mensah received word that Nkrumah was upset about the inclusion of Danquah and Busia, whom the Prime Minister upheld as CPP detractors.
